The Appeal of Nonviolence

Rose and I have been tutoring kids in our room.  In our first session one of the older kids hit her younger sister.  That behavior is usually acceptable in our neighborhood, but I wanted to model something different.  So I told the kids in Hindi, "In this room, there is no hitting."

During a later class, it happened again.  Rose had heard what I had said the first time, and again told the kids, "In this room, there is no hitting."  Saeed, an 8-year-old boy, piped up.

"This is a good room!  This is a beautiful room!"
